Mount Kenya University is a private, Chartered university operating in East Africa. It has its Main Campus in Thika. The university is known for its good education and it also participates in sports.
A new dawn beckons for the university’s rugby team. “Titans”, has been completely reinvigorated and is now ready to compete at international level.
The 27-member team has a new kit, coach and van. During the handing over of the van and kit at MKU Graduation Pavilion, the team patron Dr. Simon Gicharu said he expects the team to reach stratospheres heights in the highly competitive rugby circuit. “We are in talks with a team from France to have several exchange matches in the coming months,” he said.
The university will also partner with the Kiambu County government to host an international rugby tournament at the Graduation Pavilion.
Machel Waikenda, Kiambu County Executive Committee member in charge of youth affairs, sports and communication met the MKU Dean of Students, Evans Omwango, earlier in his office. “Talent development among the youth is key component of our sports policy. We look forward to this fruitful partnership between MKU and Kiambu County,” he said.
Titans was founded in 2010 by students who had passion for the sport. The team is currently participating in the Nationwide League. It finished 4th in the 2014-2015 season.
