Egerton University has in a memo indicated postponement of a top ranked international conference which was to be held at the Njoro based institution of Higher learning later this month.
The memo from the office of the Deputy Vice chancellor in charge of research and extension notes that Egerton University’s 13th International Conference which was to be held on 25th to 27th Match has been postponed to a later date due to the novel Coronavirus scare.
The university has noted that their action is due to the directive issued by the government last week. The Government had with immediate effect banned all meetings, conferences and events of international nature in Kenya when they confirmed the first case of the virus.
The acting director Prof Nancy W Mungai has noted that the new conference dates will be communicated to all people at a later date.
This also comes at a time when the government has asked all institutions of higher learning in the country to close and suspend all their activities atleast for 30 days. Egerton University is yet to issue a directive to students and staff on the same but a senate meeting is eminent as per inside sources.
Already, the UoN has suspended their activities as well as Moi University and African Nazarine which has completely shut down its campuses. MKU has also issued a directive to all their students to travel home and ensure that they attend lectures via their online portal. They have also indicated that they will supplement the lessons with live shows on TV 47.
