Mt. Kenya University ‘s founder and vision carrier, Dr. Simon Gicharu will be inducted into the hall of fame of the World Entrepreneurs of the Year in France.
This will happen early next month in Monaco southern part of France. Dr. Gicharu will represent the Eastern African region in the prestigious Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) Award.The event is aimed at culminating the induction of all the competitors in the EOY Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame is a structure housing memorials to famous or illustrious individuals usually chosen by a group of electors. Dr. Gicharu is the lucky one chosen to represent Eastern Africa. His entrepreneurial initiative has enabled thousands of discerning students access high education and thus positively transformed their lives.
” My motivation has always been society’s transformation good” says Dr. Gicharu. ”We have managed to reach students who could not find places in public universities and at the same time could not afford to pay tuition fees at the conventional private universities.”
Gicharu who is the patron of the University’s Community Outreach Programme has made sure his generosity is felt everywhere. From aiding victims of the 1994 Rwanda Genocide in Kigali to providing water and sanitation to the residents of the marginalized Turkana county who recently faced with clashes from their Pokot neighbors.
There will be 65 competitors from various nations all looking forward to take the prestigious Ernst & Young trophy home. Besides Dr. Simon Gicharu representing East Africa, other competitors will include; Rosemary Squire from United Kingdom, Pedro Lima from Brazil, Jubril Adewale Tinubu from West Africa, Morio Sase from Japan among others.
The founder who built Mt. Kenya University from was last year’s winner of Ernst & Young trophy.
He impressed the judges in the 6 criteria used to pick the winner namely; financial performance, entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, corporate social responsibility, strategic direction and personal integrity.
