For the past three days, I have been studying activities of Christians with addictions and I saw it fit to share this with you.
At one point in our life, we always struggle with something. Be it alcohol, drugs, fornication, lust, masturbation, a lying tongue and much more.
And truth be told, as a Christian, it’s very hard to leave such behaviours, because when you commit to stopping it. It’s like the emergency alarms in hell ring and all of a sudden all temptations start falling your way from left to centre to right.
Something interesting with sin is that the same voice that convinces and lures you to sin is the same voice that will condemn you for committing sin. But guess what!! I have a secret: The Holy Spirit’s whisper is loud enough to drain the shouts of the enemy convincing you to fall into your old habits.
Something you all should probably know about sin. Sin takes you further than you planned to go, sin takes more than you planned to give and sin keeps you longer than you planned to stay.
It’s understandable if you have a struggle in life. I repeat it’s very normal! What matters is what you do with it. Your struggles can either keep you away from God or better still in His presence. And I’ll be dropping some major biblical excerpts so that you can get this whole vibe better.
Another secret: The solutions to all your problems, the answers to all your questions are in the Bible. Look no further dearest.
The Apostle Paul;
I must confess I really really love this guy. I love to compare myself with Him. My doppelganger eiyy!! But today won’t be talking about my millenniums’ old friend.
So now, did you know that Paul also had something he struggled with? He refers to it as a thorn in the flesh in 2ndCorinthians 12:7-10. Thrice he prayed to the Lord to remove it but God didn’t. God’s reply is what really Bambas my life
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
This thorn in the flesh made him weak at times but he held fast to God’s word that whenever he was weak, God’s power was being made perfect. Let your weakness push you deeper into Christ’s presence
This Guy called Judas
Judas walked side by side with Christ but somehow, he just couldn’t get it right. The guy was even a thief!! How even?
He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
Funny thing is that some of us live a Judas filled life. We love God, we walk with Him everywhere but my urge for money is too much I just can’t help it but steal or offer to betray Christ himself. Newsflash people! Some of us are still slaves with the flesh. Everything the flesh desires is illegal. The flesh and the spirit are so not compatible. If one thrives the other is defeated. The Bible actually refers to the flesh as sinful nature
For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other so that you do not do what you want.
My people let’s not live Judas lives.
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
Whatever your struggle, it is about time you crucified it too. When you feel like giving in to your sins, shelter yourselves under Christ’s wing instead like Paul. For in your weakness bro, God’s power is strongest.
And hey! God’s grace is sufficient for you dearest. Oh yes, you can overcome it.
I really really want to finish writing but I just have to include this. I really love local music. Our local gospel artistes are really anointed, people. My new song on my favourite list is hide and seek by Hope kid and Alemba.
I really never understand what he sings in the beginning. I’ve listened to the song like 100 times but I still think he sings ‘nialegudashiwe show them that a preleg war!’ It makes no sense. I know. But there’s something that Hope kid says that is in line with this article:
What will it benefit a man to gain this world and lose his soul?
So when you fall, rise up. Nobody said this is easy. Ooh yes!! Nobody said Christianity is a walk in the park. A story for another day though!
The enemy will make you feel so bad when you fall but rise up and forge ahead sister. Forge ahead, brother. Shake off that sin that so easily entangles and run with perseverance this race marked out for us
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
