Jomo Kenyatta university of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) students are not a happy lot. The students in the Juja based campus are not happy with the administration of the institution. Clear reports and messages from the students within the campus indicate that the administration has taken over the process of student union’s constitutional review and are introducing peculiar clauses to either gag the students or render the organisation thus JKUSO useless and helpless. The students have even gone ahead to express their concern through a widely shared letter unanimously written and sent to media houses. Below is the said protest letter.
AN OPEN LETTER TO PROF ROMANOS OTIENO ODHIAMBO.
REF: GROSS MISCONDUCT AND ABUSE OF OFFICE
It has come to the Notice of Comrades that the above named Individual is curtailing the process of acquisition of the new constitution eagerly awaited by us. At the ongoing constitution come political retreat in Limuru, Odhiambo Specifically led the administration to refute removal of the cruel and unconstitutional clause of supplementary examination rule from the constitution.
We as comrades have read deep and wide and therefore we understand what the constitution, Kenyans fought for, is implemented without bias anywhere in the country.
Chapter Four of our Constitution, Article 38, on the political rights of Citizens.
Chapter 6 on Leadership and integrity, article 78 on Citizenship and leadership
Chapter 7 On Representation of the people.
This chapters are being violated, and Comrades can not sleep when this is happening.
We are ready to shed blood, for the common good of future generations.
Romanos must go!!
The students have indicated that they will never relent in their fight against oppression from the administration. Individuals privy to both the meetings at Limuru and within the campus confirmed that the administration had insisted on changing some clauses to lock out some students from vying for leadership positions.
