The SEKU students politics is still on. Different aspirants are taking their time to familiarize themselves with the students wants.
As the election is set for Thursday this week, students get up to a hundred knocks on their door in a single day. One aspirant to another, each politely requesting for their support come that day.
One Abner Ochieng Okumu is no different from the political bigwig at SEKU. After launching his manifesto yester night, his own unique agenda is seen to have really impressed most of the students. The students showing their support through TEAM ABNER are willing and ready to promote ABNER as the next SEKU PRESIDENT. A process’s which can only be brought into reality by the students.
Among the things he promised in his manifesto was:
1.PUSH FOR REGULAR OPEN FORUMS.
Over the previous council SEKU had no search forums. Abner talked of this open forum as a platform where students will be able to table their grievances and ensure that they have been rightfully addressed. He also added that the students will be able to ask relevant question to their leaders.
2. PROMOTE STUDENT ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
Some students rely on personally run businesses to cater for their needs. In his manifesto, Abner indicates that he will convince the University to lease out rooms to students so that they can run their different enterprenurial activities. The school being 17km away from the tarmacked road, students need an open market,a need that Abner harbors within his numerous points.
3.IMPROVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE.
This Abner says will be done by increasing the number of academic trips in various courses in order to gain the skills required.
4. ENSURE COMRADES ENJOY AFFORDABLE AND RELIABLE TRANSPORT SERVICES.
Commuting from Kwa Vonza to school and back everyday is a bigger problem in SEKU. The bus fare was recently raised after the previous council was dissolved only to be rectified after registering alot of suffering from the students population. ABNER has promised that the bus fare will remain constant.
5.Encourage the participation of corporate bodies via seminars, symposiums and internship.
6.Installation of public address system and proper lighting in big lecture halls.
7.Fair distribution of bursaries.
8.More activities, more events and entertainment to improve the image of university, push for active participation in both regional and social activities.
