Taita Taveta Varsity to Open Mining Centre

The German Academic Exchange Service, Kenya and the German Embassy tomorrow will open the Kenyan-German Centre of Excellence for Mining, Environmental Engineering and Resource Management in Taita Taveta University.

A statement from the embassy said the ceremony will be attended by Mining CS Dan Kazungu, Governor John Mruttu, the German Ambassador Jutta Frasch and head of the DAAD Kenya Office Helmut Blumbach.

The project includes curriculum based on German standards, staff and student exchange programmes, equipment for laboratories and collaboration with industry players.

“The German Federal Foreign Office, through the DAAD, will fund the project for up to 720,000 euros for the first two years and the support might be extended for another three years,” it read.
