These are the Beauties Campus Politics has Shaped for National Duty

They are young, they are beautiful, and they have the brains.

Their male counterparts have been given enough media attention, it’s time we also shine a spotlight on our (former and current) campus girls seeking elective national seats in this coming August’s elections.

First in line is Suzanne Silantoi Lengewa (independent candidate for Nairobi senatorial seat). This Bachelor of Music graduate of Kenyatta University, at just 23 years old, will be on the ballot on August 8, seeking to succeed incumbent Senator Mike Sonko.

In a recent interview with The Nairobian, Suzanne says, “Young people must hit when the iron is still hot” and that she wants to “inspire other young people to be the change they desire.”

Another hot flame is Mary Adhiambo Ojwang’ (Republican Liberty Party aspirant for Woman Representative, Vihiga County). Mary is a fourth-year student at the University of Nairobi, currently pursuing a degree in economics and tourism.

She is also currently the Women Students Welfare Association (WOSWA) chair at the uni. Mary says she has been a student leader since her first year and was driven to seek an elective post in national politics by her passion for leadership and because she wanted to encourage fellow young ladies who are “waiting for the right time to pursue their political dreams” that “there is no right time.”
