“Pongezi Benard Okoth for Kibra”, DP Ruto has posted on his Twitter handle.
This is after getting the official results from Kibra vote tallying centre this morning that ODM’s candidate Imran Okoth had garnered 24,636 votes against Macdonald Mariga’s 11,000 votes who came in second. The IEBC announced Benard Okoth as the winner and therefore the duly elected Kibra MP out of the 24 candidates.
The DP however noted that they had conceded the defeat with heads high having made ODM sweat to retain the seat. He said that his Jubilee Party had gained grounds in Kibra which has been referred to as Raila Odinga’s bedroom, noting that NASA’s support has reduced from 78% in the last election to 52% in yesterday’s by-election.
Dr William Ruto also congratulated the Jubilee Party candidate McDonald Mariga for putting up a good fight and climbing the ladder from the nickname a ‘non-starter’ to a runner up.
“Congrats Mariga, Team Jubilee & supporters for daring the so called ‘bedroom’, braving the chaos/violence, to double our vote from 12%(2017) to 26% now. Our competitors came down 78% (2017) to 52%. They retained the seat we have served notice”, noted Raila Odinga.
Other candidates garnered paltry votes led by ANC’s Eliud Owalo who managed slightly above 5000 votes.
