Egerton University is doing well in terms of rankings and has featured in the top 50 universities in Africa in the latest Webometrics Rankings. The new list published this week has given the University of Nairobi a lead in the East African region followed closely by Uganda’s Makerere University.
The Njoro based University has been battling financial impropriety and leadership crisis but it seems, the current engagements has not affected their positioning as per the indicators considered by Webometrics ranking tool. Egerton is at position 37 in Africa and is second best in Kenya, staying close to UoN which is at position 13 in Africa.
Kenyatta University ranks third in the country and at position 40, one step ahead of University of Dar es Salaam in Africa. Moi University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) closes the top five institutions of higher learning in the country at positions four and five respectively. The two sit at positions 51 and 52 respectively in the African continent.
At position six in the country is Technical University of Kenya (TUK) followed by Maseno University in the 7th place.
Strathmore University leads among private universities in the country and is at position 8 in Kenya. Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), University of Embu and Muranga University of Technology sits at positions 9, 10 and 11 respectively. United States International University (USIU) is the second best private university in Kenya and 12th overall followed by Daystar University at position 13.
Mount Kenya University (MKU) has dropped to position 16 in the country just below Machakos University and South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU).
Others in order of their rankings include (17) Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, (18) Kibabii, (19) Maasai Mara, (20) Pwani, (21) Kenya Medical Training College, (22) Kisii, (23) University of Eldoret, (24) Kabarak University, (25) Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, (26) Kenya Methodist University, (27) African Virtual University, (28) Meru University, (29) Catholic University of East Africa and (30) St. Paul’s University.
Ranked last in the country is Gretsa University slightly below Scot Christian University and Taita Taveta University.
The ranking has seen South African Universities dominating the top ten positions in Africa with University of Cape Town taking the lead followed by Stellenbosch University. University of Nairobi is at position 1052 in the World while Egerton celebrates 1878th slot.
University of Washington is ranked best in the World followed by Cornell University, John Hopkins University and Yale University.
