Egerton university is today hosting the 4th edition of #RunfortheMau marathon. The event held yearly is aimed at conserving river Njoro and Mau forest. The top agricultural college in Kenya started the project four years ago as a remedy for the already endangered forest. Egerton-Mau Marathan brings together athletes from different regions and levels to compete and raise money for the environmental conservation activities.
The 4th edition of #RunfortheMau marathon has attracted close to 10 corporate sponsors with KCB and Kenyan government leading the pact. Some of the notable names who have participated in the race include Former Olympic champion Ezekiel Kemboi, former Cabinet Minister and MP Franklin Bet.
The race has already kicked off with the juniors men marathon having Dancan Karua and Kipchirchir Ruto as winners. The 8KM race was officially flagged off by Mr Mamo Boru from
The Vice chancellor Professor Rose Mwonya said that the university is committed to create awareness on the importance of conserving the environment. She said that the university has for over the four years planted trees and preserved water sources as pledged. She will also be gracing the track among other staff members and looks forward to finishing first.
