Egerton Wasps are through to the finals of Kenya Rugby Union’s second tier rugby tournament commonly known as nationwide league. This is after a one sided rugby affair that saw Egerton Wasps wallop the visiting Eldoret RFC 27-0 in a match played on the dusty and dry pavilion at Egerton University, Njoro.
The match kicked off at around 4.10pm on Saturday with the well polished university side restricting the visitors to their half. By halftime, Egerton led 15-0 through tries from Tony Kiprop, Jack Naftali and Robin Solomon. The 2nd half was a quieter affair dominated by petty mistakes committed by both teams.
The 2nd half also saw an Egerton player(Steve Wamae) being sent to the sin bin for kicking the ball away when the referee had awarded a penalty against the Wasps.Egerton further added two tries from Willis Mwinamo ending the match 27-0.The other Rift Valley region semi final saw University of Eldoret(UoE) beat Kabarak 31-19.
In other campus related sports event, the Ferd League commenced with three matches being played. In the first match, WIEM and NARE drew 1-1.BSC walloped KISWAHILI 7-1 bringing into mind the memories of the 2014 FIFA World Cup where Germany beat the fancied Brazil Samba boys with the same margin.
The last match of the day saw ENSC beat AGEC 2-0.The top scorers in the Ferd league so far are Kevin of BSc with 3goals followed by Mumbi who has 2 goals. The league continues on the weekend of 21st and 22nd with two matches being played on Saturday with NARE entertaining ENSC at noon followed by WIEM vs. BSc at 2pm.On Sunday Kiswahili plays against AGEC at 2pm.
Elsewhere, Kenya 7s teams were Bowl winners of the just concluded IRB series Las Vegas leg collecting 8 points in the process. Kenya beat Argentina 24-21 in a very tight fixture that could have gone either way. Kenya currently has 29 points occupying the 12th position.
