BY Kennedy Kamande,

The much awaited Jomo Kenyatta University Students’ Association (JKUSA) elections will be held today, Wednesday 31/05/2017. Hundreds of students have already thronged the polling stations which were opened as early as 08:00 am to exercise their civic duty of voting in their JKUSA Congress Body.

The build up to this day’s election has been preceded by a schedule of activities which kicked off in January 2017 with the advertisement for members of the Constitution Review Committee followed by invitation of applications for electoral commissioners and clerks, interviews and appointments of commissioners and clerks; nominations of candidates; vetting of candidates; publication of the qualified candidates and a fortnight of campaigns in all JKUAT Campuses.

The new team will be sworn in on a date to be confirmed in early June followed by a training programme for the new student leaders. A high voter turn-out is expected from the students who will be coming to exercise their democratic rights of voting in their leaders of choice.

Here at Magazine Reel We wish all the candidates success and may the best candidate win.
