Beatrice Elachi, the Speaker of Nairobi County Assembly has resigned from her position.
Elachi handed over the speaker’s seat to her deputy John Kamangu, pending the search for a new office holder.
“I humbly tender my resignation to President Uhuru Kenya. For the last few days there have been life threatening incidences. I appoint my deputy speaker, John Kamangu as acting speaker,” Elachi said.
The former speaker has been at loggerheads with Governor Mike Sonko and a number of MCAs. Her resignation comes amid calls from certain quarters for her impeachment.
Beatrice Elachi found herself sand-witched in war between the governor and NMS director general Mr Mohammed Badi.

On her resignation, Elachi noted that she received threats from certain people. She accused Governor Sonko of forcing her children to move out of their residential places for fear on their lives.
In her speech, the tough talking former speaker pleaded with MCAs and the governor to let Mr John Kamangu deliver in his mandate.
Elachi’s 2022 Politics
The former speaker says she is moving on to a new season in her her political career. She has hinted that she will be concentrating on Dagoretti North constituents.
“This is the right time…Last time I left with my head down. This time, I leave with my head high, without force,” she said.
She further reiterated her support to the Mohammed Badi led transformations in the capital.
“That is the critical agenda..the legacy for our President and I believe he would be proud to see us support him. If I ever did wrong, within the duties I was given, I ask for forgiveness,” she said.
Elachi leaves when the assembly is still in court over who between Gichana and Jacob Ngwele is the bona-fide clerk. She had appointed Pauline Akuku to hold the position until the court makes its judgement.
