Kenya has announced 127 new cases of Coronavirus. In a press conference at Afya House today, Dr Mercy Mwangangi also noted that Kenya has lost 4 more patients to the disease. All those who succumbed had an underlying condition ranging from Asthma to Diabetes.

She also took the time to urge Kenyans to adhere to the safety measures provided by the ministry. She said that the new coronavirus is already within communities noting that Kibera had new 40 cases.

Other areas strongly hit by the virus include Mombasa and Kiambu. All the patients who succumbed to the disease today are from Mombasa.

Answering a question from the Press, Mwangangi noted that they established that the link of transmission is now within communities and not cases which have been imported from abroad. She said the contact tracing data shows clearly that the disease is within our communities.

However, she failed to confirm whether the Burundi first lady who was diagnosed with the disease was flown into the country to seek for treatment.

Kenya is looking at easing the restrictions so far placed on the economy. President Kenyatta has already noted that the government will no longer use lockdown and curfews as they are hurting the economy.

The total cases now stands at slightly above 1,700 with 62 who have already succumbed.
