Kenyan Athletes Shinning At IAAF Championship.


Kenyan athletes have continued to shine in the ongoing IAAF World Champion in Beijing, China. Vivian Cheruiyot and Ezekiel Kemboi both won gold medals in the 10,000 metres and 3, 000 steeplechase respectively.

Vivian Cheruiyot who had been out of the track for maternal reasons came out strong from behind to defend World 10,000m title when she clocked 31 minutes and 41.31 seconds. Ethiopian Gelete Burka emerged at the runners up with 31:41.77 while  Emily Infeld (US) closed strong for bronze in 31:43.49.

Ezekiel Kemboi later made history as first athlete to win four consecutive world 3,000m steeplechase titles. Using a record breaking 8 minutes 11.28 seconds, he led three more Kenyans: Conseslus Kipruto, Brimin Kipruto and Jairus Birech to sweep the first four positions.

Kemboi had previously clinched gold medals in 2009 (Berlin) 2011 (Daegu) and 2013 (Moscow).

The win now leaves Kenya at the top position with with two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Kenyans on Twitter didn’t fail to recognise the win, they out poured praises to the medalists for their exemplary performance.
