Maseno University has in a notice given students up to Friday this week to clear their outstanding fee balances and register for courses. This comes at a time when the country is tackling the Coronavirus menace and other institutions of higher learning are suspending operations for atleast a month.
The government yesterday announced that all schools will remain closed and students will stay at home for atleast a month as a measure of prevention of the spread of the dreaded virus taking the world by storm.
But at Maseno University, it seems, it hasn’t sunk yet and still the management is looking forward to ensuring that students pay fees for the semester and register for courses and units as per the academic deadlines. It is not clear whether the institution will opt to close before the Friday deadline and give the students a break as a result of the government directive.
The notice signed by the Registrar Academic Affairs Christine Achola notes that the student portal will be opened for course registration between today 16th March and 20th March which will be on Friday this week.
The students are required to contact the institution’s systems administrator if they run into problems during the said period.
The memo indicates that all students who have duly registered for courses are further advised to download their examinations card from the Portal. It is not yet clear whether the students will be required to sit for their end semester examinations before the management can suspend their operations.
So far, the institution just like many others, has urged their staff and students to exercise precaution and ensure that they follow the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health to combat the fearful Coronavirus.
Already, the country has confirmed 3 cases of the said virus and the patients are being treated at a facility in Kenyatta National Hospital.
