For the old ladies of pre-clinical medicine at Maseno University school of medicine, God comes first. To them, education is just a favour from the almighty, let alone fulfilling his demand of going to the earth to fill it.
Julian Wachira, Fauna Njoroge, Ida Dalima and Henrietta Masega, both in their third year undertaking medicine and surgery came up with a noble idea to organize an exceptional event. The event, dubbed “Candlelit Cantata”, is set to happen on Thursday, 2nd June 2016. The event will run from 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm at the school chapel.
During a chat with Miss. Fauna, she made me to understand the significance of holding this event. “Since we started fellow shipping together five years ago, nothing like this has been organized. We intend to do something extra-ordinary and beyond the scope of the norms,” She said. “Recently, a storm of doom has been blowing over the school, taking way the beautiful souls we have. We can’t afford to lose our beloved students and staff any longer,” she continued, amidst despondency. “We sought to bring this event so that we gather as a fraternity, and meditate while praying and singing with burning candles.”
After that touching interview, I made an effort to go through the event’s updates. The theme verse is, Psalms 1:2 (His Delight is in the law of the Lord, and He meditates therein day and night). I also read about meditation and learned that it opens many doors along the path of the Lord.
“We tend to focus on the outer path, rather than the inner one which links us to God directly,” said Ida. Mother Teresa said that, “In the silence of the heart, God speaks. And if you face God in prayer and silence, He will speak to you.”
The event, which the students are anxiously waiting for, is meant to fortify peace and harmony and cleanse the spirit of bad luck and bring upon abundant blessings upon the souls of the medics. All students are requested to carry a friend with them. Since our Christian desert forefathers practised contemplative prayers, we should follow suit and embrace the path that allows us make a conscious contact with God.
