MMUST Student Lands Govt Job After Gifting Senator Kamar

A second-year University student at Masinde Muliro has landed a job at the Kenya Ports Authority after gifting Uasin Gishu senator Prof Margaret Kamar on Friday, August 28.

The student, Ruth Muge, made a pencil portrait of the senator and posted it on her Facebook page on Tuesday, August 18, leaving Kenyans in pure admiration.

“Art being all about patience, I am humbled to finally present a portrait of one of our own, Hon. Prof. Margaret Kamar. It is my wish that she may get to see the work of my hands and I may get a chance to gift it to her,” she captioned the photos.

Additionally, Kamar implored the youth to tap into their talents especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic when schools were closed.

The duo would meet on Friday, with the senator relaying that Muge was expected to start a two-year contract at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) where she would be part of the creative team.

From her social media pages, Muge has done a number of portraits, most of which are of people from her close circles.

In April 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the government had set aside Ksh.100 million to cushion artists from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

While addressing the nation, the president stated that the funds would allow artists, actors and musicians to continue entertaining the public through TV, radio and the internet.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed’s office assured artists that the process would be fair, transparent and accountable in the selection of content providers and distribution of funds.
