Are you the next Big Thing? In Technology, after M-PESA? Safaricom has launched the Safaricom Appstar 2013 Contest in partnership with Vodafone to find the next Big App. 
What is AppStar?
AppStar is the annual developer contest conducted by Vodafone across several countries in Africa & Asia. AppStar 2013 is the latest edition of appStar to bring out all those innovative and cool apps that you always dreamt of developing. Their intent is to provide a platform for all local developers in the region to be showcased on a larger stage.
One is eligible to participate if you are a developer from one of these countries: Egypt, Kenya, India, South Africa, and Tanzania
The contest will be two-phased. You will first compete with developers in your country. The top two developers from each country will then compete at an international stage (where you get to present / demo your app to a larger audience). The final winners are announced during the international contest. The international contest location is being worked on (watch this space!).
NB: The local contest has different categories
Who can Participate?
Any developer who has the capability to develop a cool app in any of the listed platforms can register and submit the application.
appStar is designed to lower the entry barrier for all range of developers: be it an established company, student, hobbyists, homemakers or a freelancer.
