Have you ever been struck by lightning? I hope not, because for Barry Allen it wasn’t a pleasant experience, but turned out to yield interesting results. Yes, this is another superhero show, but it’s a good one. Barry is a normal guy, well, as normal as can be, he is brilliant and often quirky, working at the CCPD as a crime scene investigator. He saw his mother’s supernatural murder when he was 11 years old and his father was wrongfully convicted for her murder.
He was taken in by Det. Joe West and his family. Barry investigates paranormal activity and cold cases, in the hopes of finding an answer to the mystery that’s his mother’s murder. This obsession with this scientific research makes him an outcast with his peers, and since no one believes him – that there was a ball of fire with the face of a man who killed his mother – he is fiercely determined to clear his father’s name. Dr Harrison Wells, the founder and CEO of S.T.A.R. Laboratories, also Barry’s idol, creates a particle accelerator that if successful would change the way the world views science (yeah lots of science-y stuff).
Unfortunately the particle accelerator malfunctions, enveloping the entirety of central city in a cloud of radiation during a severe thunderstorm. Barry is struck by lightning from the storm, and doused with chemicals in his laboratory. The accident puts him in a coma for 9 months, and when he wakes he is able to move at superhuman speeds. Dr Wells refers to him as a meta human. Soon, Barry discovers that he was not the only one that was affected by the particle accelerator explosion, and decides to use his powers to stop these other meta humans with the help of S.T.A.R. Labs.
At the same time he is also searching for the other speedster that killed his mother, now that his pseudo-father believes in Barry’s story. The flash is soon recognized as a hero in his city, since he is helping the citizens and making it safer. Grant Gustin portrays Barry Allen, and has been widely applauded for his portrayal of the character, Jesse L. Martin plays Det. Joe West, Candice Patton plays Iris West, Barry’s best friend and love interest, Danielle Panabaker as Dr. Caitlin snow, a doctor with S.T.A.R. Labs, Tom Cavanaugh as Dr. Harrison Wells, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, an engineer also working at S.T.A.R. Labs, and Rick Cosnett as Det. Eddie Thawne, Det.
West’s partner and Iris’ boyfriend. The show is developed for television by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, both minds behind the TV shows Arrow, DC Legends of Tomorrow and Blindspot, and Geoff Johns. The flash is an action, mystery and science fiction superhero show. It is quirky, funny, with a pretty good story line, and the characters never fail to deliver a believable story with each episode. It is currently on the tail end of its second season, with a third season set to premiere sometime in September. The International Movie Database (IMDb) has it rated at a solid 8.2/10, and it has gained critics approval so I can promise it’s a good watch. Grab yourself the first and second seasons and enjoy.
