SportPesa CEO tells Kenyans that they are Coming Back, Pleads with them to Wait

Giant Betting firm in Sportpesa Today's Games and Sportpesa Jackpot Predictions

So when do we expect SportPesa back?

One Alexander Waweru on Twitter asked the SportPesa CEO when they would resume operations in the county. Here’s what Karauri had to say:

“I have so many people asking this question. We did not get our license renewed in 2019. We submitted our application to BCLB some months ago and we are still waiting for feedback. If we do get our license renewed we shall let everyone know,” Karauri replied.

But Kenyans are not suffering as much. A number who had been betting on SportPesa are enrolled in the over 100 betting sites which have been licensed to operate. A number have adopted major strategies and are milking dry the likes of Betika, Odibets and Sportybet.

Through the help of Sahihi, a tips platform highly trusted and valued in Kenya, several gamblers are not keen on which site they’d prefer to place bets on anymore. Most admit that they either lose or win in any of the sites and it doesn’t matter whether it is SportPesa or any other that has joined the market.

Sahihi even manages betting accounts for several gamblers from across East Africa. In any betting platform, the tips agency championing for small but steady profits for gamblers manages to make atleast 1,500 shillings as profit each day for the subscribers.

Some also subscribe to their general plans which gives them access to highly rated slips with predictions on a few games each day. The slips win in 5 of the 7 days of the week and the overall profit is lucrative.

In Kenya, SportPesa, having been the biggest betting firm in terms of popularity, shut down all its operations in September last year, citing ‘hostile regulations’.

The firm was optimistic of resuming operations when once the country put in place “adequate taxation and non-hostile regulatory environment.”

However, this never happened.

Other Betting firms are still streaming into the country. One such is Betsafe which has sponsored both Gor Mahia FC and AFC Leopards.

Another which seems to be SportPesa rival is BetKing. Its entry has caused alot of jittery in SportPesa quarters. On Sunday, July 19, Karauri blasted FKF for entering into an agreement with the Nigerian betting firm, which will see the federation receive Sh1.2 billion in a period of five years. The new sponsors replaced SportPesa as the official sponsors of the soccer league.

Founded in 2014 in Nairobi, SportPesa has operations in Tanzania, South Africa, Italy, Ireland and the UK.
