After years, months, weeks and days of waiting for their say on when they will be back to the country, SportPesa has noted that they are ready to hit the ground running as soon as the board offers them a new operating licence.
While responding to a question from one of the clients, the betting giant noted with surety that they will be back to operate in the country within the shortest time possible.
“We are not yet back. However, we are hopeful to resume operations as we await feedback from BCLB regarding our operating license. Once we have any new developments we shall communicate. We appreciate your loyalty and thank you for your patience.”, the betting platform notes on their twitter response.
The company however seemed to be pointing fingers at the Kenyan government and BCLB in particular for failure to process their details quickly and offer them an opportunity to kickstart their activities in the country. In normal circumstances, the board does not take more than 60 days or two months to conclude the process of verifying documents and certifying a firm to operate, but SportPesa has now waited for more than 3 months.
Partly, the long wait is also blamed on the current situation in the country. Most of the boards have been forced to close their doors on any new activities and halt many others since the Stay at home order was issued by the government. The COVID-19 situation has made a number of state agencies to postpone activities indefinitely, some have even sent their workers on leave while others have allowed their employees to perform light duties from home.
Experts suggest that instances SportPesa is facing may be resolved immediately the country achieves the ‘no new case’ pronouncement from the health ministry. The betting giant, though ready to launch, may therefore be forced to wait till the end of June to begin operations in Kenya.
This is however not to say that you cannot make money from betting in the country. It is possible since there are more than 17 betting companies allowed to operate here in Kenya. Some such as Betika and Odibets are almost achieving the level of SportPesa in the game. A number such as Mozzartbet have successfully been able to replace another giant Betin, which exited the market with SportPesa.
