Strathmore’s Scorpions Beats Egypt’s Sharkia in Africa Hockey Championship


Strathmore Scorpions, thrashed Egyptian club Sharkia 5-0 in Bulawayo’s Khumalo Stadium at the Africa Cup of Club Championship.

Scorpion’s goalkeeper Truphy Oriwa and star forwards was one of the players who produced an exemplary performance keeping the Egyptians at bay every time they knocked on their goal post.

Other team mates Gilly Okumu and Carol Njoki, ensured Scorpions win by playing their best through the flanks. Their speed and dribbling skills kept the Sharkias always in their half preventing them from piling more pressure on Scorpions.

Even though the Egyptians produced a tense moment for the Kenyan team for a better part of the game, Truphy made several critical saves before her teammates settled in the game and made their first onslaught on the Sharkia goal, only to be let down by poor finishing.

scorpionsIt took Gilly’s penalty shootout and Carols strike to send a 2-0 warning to the Egyptians.

Scorpions continued effort paid of as they kept on testing the defense line of their opponents. Firing long range shots, Carol and Gilly added a single score each making it 4-0.

The Sharkias tried to pull one back but Strathmore defense could not give them space. Amutebi went passed two defense liners only to remain with the goalkeeper whom she managed to fire the ball past her left sealing the victory.
