After undergoing a successfully medical surgery at the UAE, the opposotion chief Raila Odinga is back in Kenya.

The Orange Democratic Movement ODM leader jetted back into the country yesternight and was accompanied by Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed. The two had travelled to Dubai in a Private jet in order to check on their leader.

Sources and reports covering the trip from Dubai showed that the President Uhuru Kenyatta had booked and paid for the jet for up to a tune of 13 million shillings. It has been reported that the former Prime Minister’s family had requested the president to help him come back to the country without the knowledge of the public. This they said was part of ensuring that government’s directives on prevention of Covid-19 is adhered to.

Other sources also indicate that the high representative for infrastructure in Africa is still weak and needs space to relax, settle and heal before he can be back in public.

Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta are expected to receive and make public the Building Bridges Initiative report. The committee tasked with collecting and documenting views from Kenyans have had their time elapse and have noted that they have concluded the process and only awaiting to hand it over to the two principles of the ‘handshake’.

It is believed that the ODM leader’s condition and being that he was out of the country had delayed the process. President Uhuru reportedly advised the BBI committee to wait until the former PM regains his strength and is ready to receive the  report together with him.

Once implemented, the BBI is expected to causes changes to the constitution and leadership structure in the country. The two leaders believe that it carries the solution to problems of disunity in the country. President Uhuru Kenyatta has noted that he is keen to leave behind a strong one united nation as a legacy when he exits stage in 2022.

The president’s stance has seen a rift emerge between him and his deputy  William Ruto who believes that the handshake is meant to fight and stop his presidential bid in 2022.
