Police have arrested a master’s degree student at the University of Nairobi for allegedly threatening and extorting money from Njoro MP Charity Chepkwony.

According to detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters, Alex Anyolo has been sending threatening messages to five other MPs with intent to solicit for money.

When he was nabbed on Wednesday, June 4, the 30-year-old suspect admitted to sending threatening messages to the complainant. He had already received money from another unidentified legislator.

Police managed to recover several assorted SIM cards including one that sent the alleged texts, phones and different ID cards. The student will be arraigned once investigations concluded.

In 2018, a man identified as Waziri Benson Chacha hit headlines on allegations of conning several key public figures using a mobile money transfer number registered in name of Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege.

The 26-year-old IT graduate maintained his innocence and even alleged his tribulations were a product of love gone sour between him and Sabina, a position the latter vehemently denied.

The case will be determined in October 2019 after the MP applied for deferment so as to prepare her testimony against the suspected conman who reportedly slept with a total 13 MPs.
