Hello reader, welcome to your all time favourite and informative column The Weekend Diary. This is a weekly column that gives you real-time and exclusive details of events happening in your town, hood and campus.
It’s been a great week, not only because POTUS got a year older but for the multimillion fans of EPL. SportPesa fanatics will now start another perilous/prosperous betting journey after a long dryspell. KOT, the new advocates in town did a great job, especially to our own fella, a fellow comrade Jadudi.
As always we begin with what happened today in history.
-1959 – The U.S. launched Explorer 6, which sent back a picture of the Earth.
-1960 – The Cuban Catholic Church condemned the rise of communism in Cuba. Fidel Castro then banned all religious TV and radio broadcasts.
– 2003 – In California, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that he would run for the office of governor.
After that brief history, let’s now look at what is brewing for the weekend.
When- 8th to 9th August.
Where – Kisumu Showground.
Lovers of Rugby will this weekend witness the much anticipated Dala 7s. The lakeside which has been quite silent after POTUS disappointment will be a live town bubbling with excitement. Unconfirmed rumours say that the county government will be releasing a list of car models that will be allowed in town. You can’t afford to miss it.
National Music Festivals.

Kisumu City is already sizzling with pomp and colour as National Music Festivals are ongoing. The competition began on third August. The second EAC Arts and Culture Festival – Jumuiya ya Africa Mashsariki Utamaduni Festival (JAMAFEST) has been ongoing and will be ending this Sunday. You should expect Visual Arts Exhibition, traditional sports and children’s games taking place at the KICC lawns. All with the aim of promoting and celebrating the East African culture.
