-1932 – Philips makes 1 millionth radio.

1945 – V – J Day ; Japan surrenders unconditionally to end WW II (also August 15 depending on time zone )

1947 – Pakistan gains independence from Great Britain

1989 – President Pieter W Botha of South Africa, resigns.

Entrepreneurship Talk Egerton University. 

When – 14th August

Where – Egerton University Kilimo Hall

Charges –  Free

Egerton University’s Student Leadership Development Programme in conjunction with Unilever will be having a talk on  Career Building and Employability Through Professionalism and Entrepreneurship. The event will be graced by VC among other stakeholders. The talk is aimed at reviving entrepreneurship spirit among campus leavers. Don’t miss out.

Where – ARC Hotel Egerton University

Hey finalist, you got at most two weeks before saying bye to campus. That’s why Krystal Dee Entertainment is once again brings to you another exceptionally great night of partying to make sensational memories with a Buffet Dinner and thanksgiving at ARC Hotel followed by a GLOW IN THE DARK AFTER PARTY at the ACR. This time it’s a star studded event with a line up of Egerton’s original party killers from Deejays to Hosts and Photography.


Fanaka Arts Theatre. 

When – 14th, 15th and 16th August

Where – Alliance Française.

Charges – sh. 500

Kenya’s most visible stand-up comedians all perform primarily in Swahili. There are others, however, who stay true to their roots and use their mother’s tongue as their medium of communication. With that in mind, Fanaka Arts will be pulling off yet another edition of Gikuyu night which will be full of laughter. The play will feature comedy kings Mundu Particular, Njomo Nyathira, Tash Mitambo among others.The play is directed by the Gikuyu Comedy Giant Gitau Mitambo.The August Edition of the Hilarious Adults Only Gikuyu Comedy Play is titled “RUGA NJITE”. Nyeri town which has been keeping a low profile since the beatification of sister Irene Stephannie will this weekend be hosting a pomp and colour Mr and Miss Nyeri County Campus Edition. The event is happening courtesy of Dynamic Young Enterprise with the Nyeri County Government. Come experience fashion and beauty with brains on stage. 



When – 15th August

Where – Eden Gardens, Convent Drive 26, Nairobi

Charges – sh 500 Advance and sh. 800 gate. 

Colour Festival is an electronic dance music festival that incorporates the element of colour powders from the Indian festival of ‘Holi‘ combined with modern electronic dance music showcased by both international and local artists/DJs. It aims at celebrating and promoting the diversity of Kenya and indeed the city of Nairobi by producing a Music Festival of International Standards.             


 Poetry Slam Africa. 

When – 16th August.

Where – Alliance Francaise, Nairobi.

Charges – Advance sh. 250 Gate 500.

The 57th edition of Slam Africa brings together some of the country’s fast rising Spoken Word Poets to battle it out for the crown of Poetry Slam Champion on a Sunday afternoon laced with edifying poetry performances on the backdrop of Live music. You definitely cannot afford to miss this if you got a fetish for well baked poetry.



EPL began with a bang, and this weekend will be separating horses from Donkeys. The 20 times EPL cup winners Manchester United is definitely the team to watch and bet for.
